Creamy & Restaurant Style Dal Makhani


Dal Makhani is a popular indian dish made with black lentils, rajma beans, butter, cream & indian spices.

Dal Makhani is usually served with Garlic Naan, Tandoori Roti or Jeera Rice

Dal Makhani Recipe Ingredients

  • 200 gms Whole Black Lentils / Urad Dal  
  • 50 gms Red Kidney Beans / Rajma  - Optional 
  • Soak in 500 ml water
  • 1 Bay leaf  
  • 1/2 Tbsp Salt
  • 1 Tbsp Oil
  • 4 whistles in a Pressure cooker
  • 1 Tbsp Ghee
  • 2 Red Chilli Dry
  • 1 pinch Cumin 
  • 1 pinch Asafoetida 
  • 1 inch Ginger, chopped
  • 2 dry Green Chilli
  • 2 Small Onions, finely chopped
  • 1 Tbsp Coriander powder
  • 1 Tbsp Red chilli powder
  • 1/2 Tsp Turmeric powder
  • Salt to Taste
  • 2 Tomatoes , chopped
  • 1/2 Tsp Garam Masala
  • 1 Tbsp Full Cream
  • 1 Tbsp Makkhan ( Desi butter )

Please Note : - 
  • Soak Lentils & Rajma overnight or atleast for 8 hours before starting the recipe
  • Red Kidney beans ( Rajma ) are optional if you dont wish to add
  • Spice portions can be modified as per your taste preference
  • I've used homemade full cream but you can use light cream as well 
  • Please cook this recipe slowly & let it simmer on low heat 
  • Use a generous amount of butter & cream to enjoy this recipe thoroughly
